How it all started
Hello, my name is Debbie Norton, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for taking a moment to read my story.
After caring for both my Mom and Dad who have since passed away, I felt a profound emptiness in my life. With an innate desire to assist those in need, I founded "Guardian Angel Senior Transition Services" in 2020, located in Volusia County, FL. Together with my daughter, we support seniors during their transitions by helping with packing, decluttering, donating and more. Our mission goes beyond logistics; we strive to enrich the lives of seniors by spending quality time with them, providing rides to appointments, shopping assistance and so much more.
Over the years I have received countless calls from seniors seeking assistance, many of whom were struggling to afford even basic necessities. They needed help moving, transportation, medical equipment, meals, grocery shopping, prescription pick-ups or simply companionship. It truly pains me to tell them that "I'm so sorry, but unfortunately we are a for-profit business; however, I will do my best to assist you in any way I can." Each time I ended a call like this, I felt a strong urge to take action "I need to do something about this".
One day, while loading my truck repeatedly for donation trips to a thrift store on behalf of a client, an idea struck me: "Why not open a non-profit thrift store and use the proceeds to support these seniors and make a real difference in their lives?"
It's truly heartwarming to see how much our clients embraced the idea, expressing their enthusiasm and even offering to volunteer - what a wonderful gesture! Today, we've filled one storage unit and are diligently working on another.
We are brimming with incredible ideas and are eager to make a significant difference in our community by promoting a healthy quality of life for our seniors.
As I delved into the process of starting a non-profit, it became clear just how intricate it can be and that it can take a village to make it all happen.
As soon as we secure the perfect location, we will be accepting donations of clothing, furniture, etc.
In the meantime, we are accepting donations via our donation link.
Every contribution, no matter the size, is immensely valued. If you are unable to contribute financially at this time, sharing our mission with your friends and family would mean so much to us.
Thank you for joining us on this journey to turn our dream of opening a non-profit thrift boutique into a reality!
"In memory of my mom, dad and sister" They will always be with me in spirit!
"The simple act of caring is heroic."
